Well, as the winds rattle through London, sweeping the streets clean of people, I've taken it upon myself to resign from my day job. Possibly the greatest threat to the success of my veg plot has been removed. No longer will I battle away on Saturdays trying to write, when, as of the end of March I'll be able to write all week long. Which means, come those April Saturdays, I'll be able to dig all day.
Maybe between now and then we'll get some winter to break down my soil for me?

Congratulations! Owen (my long-suffering allotment assistant) left his nice, secure but dull and ultimately soul-destroying paid job back in March last year and started working freelance. It felt like something of a leap into the dark and was pretty scary as we've both been brought up to value a secure job.
I can honestly say that it has been the very best thing he has ever done (aside from moving in with me, obviously). It's not going to make him rich, but he has more time and is much happier and more relaxed.
I hope you also enjoy getting away from being an employee and I look forward to hearing about all the weekend work on the veg patch!
Well done, you spend such a lot of time at work that you must enjoy it - something much better will come along!
That's great news! I quit last November and I am finally (long notice period) about to leave.
I am simultaneously happy and terrified, but as the date looms, I'm getting excited.
New projects are unfolding from the dark recesses of my brain.
Very soon, I expect I'll be saying "I'm so busy, I just don't have time for a job anymore..."
I've just found may way here through beansprouts blog, so, hello.
Just wanted to congratlate you on on the leap into the unknown that is leaving a secure but probably dull job for a better life doing something you really love to do.
I jumped ship from the ratrace in June and I am now half way through a 1-year intensive training course in garden design. The future looks scary but in an exciting way. I'll be my own boss (planning to work as a freelance designer), organise work around my life the way I want to and generally be much happier!
I hope everything works out really well for you : )
